The River Forest Park Playground will provide a day-use destination for residents of North Kansas City and the surrounding region. The overall vision for this playground is to provide a unique, nature-based play experience with play opportunities for all ages, and age-appropriate play elements. There are two (2) play areas in the proposed site plan. Bidders shall aim to fit all proposed playground components and associated use areas within the combined square footage of the defined play zones. Reasonable changes to the layout of the play surfacing areas of the two zones can be made (keeping at or below the combined area outlined on the plans 4,050 sf flat play surfacing and 550 sf sloped hillside surfacing) to accommodate unique play features. Play features should incorporate natural materials such as wood, especially where children are interacting with play elements. Metals with a color palette appropriate for a naturalistic setting (or splash of accent color) are acceptable. Plastics and composites should be minimized where feasible. Play Area 1 - 2,100 sf surfacing area Play Area 2 - 1,950sf surfacing area o Play Areas shall include play structure(s), freestanding play elements, combined play systems or other design solutions providing age-appropriate play opportunities. Design considerations shall include: - Inclusive play experiences allowing individuals of varying abilities to interact in play. o Including at least one means of accessible access to one of the play structure(s). -Include climbing, spinning, hanging, balancing and tactile play opportunities for multiple age groups (2-5, 5-12+). - Include a zipline. Length should be no greater than 50'. - Include at least one slide attached/integrated with play structure(s), transfer landings are a plus but not required. o At least one integrated play structure should be a vertical tower element at least 20ft in height - Include at least one play structure, hut, or area dedicated to the 2-5 age group. - Include hill slide element where indicated on the site plan. See site plan for preliminary spot elevations that the site can accommodate at the proposed location. o The hill slide should be wide enough to accommodate 2 or more users at a time. o The hill slide height should be approximately 6' - 6.5'. - Consider additional, unique opportunities for accessibility between play equipment and play hill, and/or transfer between play areas. - Include at least one climbing or play element (rope, steppers, netting, etc) on the artificial turf hill. - Creative solutions providing varied, age-appropriate play experiences. - Playground design proposals shall aim to maximize play value. o A look and feel that celebrates and enhances the natural character of River Forest Park that is unique to North Kansas City's playgrounds. o Provide swinging play element(s) that can accommodate at least two users and is suited to accommodate all ages and abilities. Swinging play may consist of traditional bucket/belt swings, baskets, alternative swinging play elements, or a combination of elements. - Include at least one inclusive seating option. The total project budget for all playground equipment delivered to River Forest Park is $225,000.00, including freight. This amount does not include installation.
