New Main Library, the flagship of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s system, is approximately 110,000 SQFT in Uptown Charlotte, and includes spaces for print and digital collections, meeting rooms, study spaces, program and event gatherings, a café, and a digital experiences room. New Main Library will connect to the adjacent existing Spirit Square which includes renovation of the McGlohon Theater and Duke Energy Theater. As of June 2023, prequalification is currently taking place. Subcontractor bidding will then take place in separate stages, with the first going out in September/October 2023 and the second releasing in December 2023/First Quarter 2024. New construction will begin in the first quarter of 2024 and go through 2025.
