Site work for a water / sewer project in Nags Head, North Carolina. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

Title: Replace the Septic System at Bodie Island Quarters 119 & 120 Replace the existing septic system with a new septic system meeting the attached Title 15 of North Carolina Administrative Code Chapter 18A (15A NCAC 18A .1900) (attached) and the below tasks. 1. Demo existing 2,000 gal septic tank and distribution tank. Remove the tanks and their contents completely. 2. Demo existing drainfield and turn soil: a. Remove existing drainfield pipe in trenches (approx. 200 linear ft) b. Excavate existing drainfield soil. Remove top 3 inches of grass, roots, and thatch on top of the existing drainfield. Retain soil on site for reuse. c. Plow up or excavate and till the existing soils to turn the sand and gravel in the drainfield area to approx. 18" deep. 3. Provide new 2,000 gallon concrete septic tank. Locate new tank in approximately the same location as the existing. The new tank include at a minimum: a. Water tight joints b. Concrete baffles c. Effluent filter d. Access opening less than 18 inches from the end of the tank to visually see the inflow pipe. e. Adequate opening less than 12 inches from the effluent filter to be able to visually see and physically reach the effluent filter without entering the tank. f. Access opening to visually see the concrete baffle. g. Provide Concrete lids with type 316 stainless steel handles. h. Concrete risers which extend a minimum of 12 inches above grade. 4. Connect existing sanitary sewage drain pipes from Quarters 119 & 120 to the new septic tank. a. Provide properly sealed joints and connections from the existing drain pipes to new sections of pipe which seal to the new septic tank. Provide proper connecting fittings to connect the existing pipe drains to new schedule 40 PVC pipe. 5. Provide new concrete distribution tank and infiltrator type drainfield. Drainfield shall be a minimum of 225 LF x 3 ft wide trenches spaced 9 ft on center. a. Provide 36 in wide infiltrator type septic drainfield sections similar to Infiltrator Water Technologies Quick4 Equalizer 36 or Equal Standard profile chambered system which provides a minimum overall length of 225 LF of infiltration drain lines. Low profile or Standard profile for lower capacity is not acceptable. b. Install chambers according to manufacturer's installation instructions. Provide filter cloth above infiltrator sections according to the manufacturer's instructions for the brand name utilized. c. Grade the drainfield site to accommodate drainfield, reusing the original topsoil for side slopes or cover soil above the drainfield trenches. d. Cover the infiltration sections with a minimum of 12 inches of cover. Grade the cover material so that a crown provides for rainwater to flow off the drainfield area to adjacent soil. e. Provide seeding to the disturbed area. Continue to water the grass until 75% of the area has seeded and growing. i. Seed shall be suitable for the following: 1. Full sun location 2. Residential lawn 3. Mowing operations with hand operated push or riding mowers 4. Sandy soils 5. Septic Field coverage (roots that do not grow deeper than 24 inches) 6. No weeds (dandelion, bahai, pennywort) 7. No exotic species. ii. Broadcast or Hydroseed. Add a cover crop of grain rye at 30 lbs/acre. Rake broadcasted seed mix into the soil and saturate with water 2 - 3 times per day for 7 days, or until 75% of the area has seeds germinated and growing at least 1 inch high. Hydroseeded area may be observed for 7 days or until 75% of the area has growing seeds. If after 7 days, the area is less than 75% covered with new growth, overseed again and water 2-3 times per day until 75% of the ground is covered with growth. Location: Bodie Island, NC Magnitude: $25,000 - $100,000 The Contractor shall furnish all supervision, labor, materials and expertise necessary to complete the work as identified in the project drawings and specifications. (See the attached clauses, provisions, construction drawings and specifications, and associated documents for complete requirements.) *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
