Site work and paving for a civil project in Amherst, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; and water / sewer project.

The North Common Improvement Project is a PARC Grant (Community Preservation Act Committee) project which focuses on the renovation of the existing Town of Amherst North Common. The 1.7-acre site is located west of the Town Hall (4 Boltwood Avenue) and is surrounded by Main Street (to the north), Boltwood Avenue (to the east), Spring Street (to the south) and South Pleasant Street (to the east). The project has been designed to accommodate public formal and informal uses and activities as well as promote pedestrian connections, provide ADA compliance, improve existing site drainage, provide new street and park lighting, and enhance site plantings. A Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan will need to be completed and submitted by the successful bidder for this project. A small portion of the site demolition will be completed by the Town of Amherst Department of Public Works prior to the start of the project. This work has been shown on sheet 3 of the plan set. The contractor will then be responsible for the remaining demolition work needed on the site. This work will include, protection of 11 mature trees and their root systems, installation for sediment control measures, removal of 2 stumps and associated root systems, removal of approximately 2,800 SY of HMA walkways and parking lot, removal of approximately 810 SY of concrete walkways and crosswalks, removal of approximately 1,400 LF of granite curbing, removal of 2 fire hydrants, micro mill approximately 1,500 SY of Main Street and South Pleasant Street, as well as full depth reclamation of Boltwood Avenue (approximately 1,000 SY). The demolition work will also include removal of existing light pole foundations, removal (remove and rest) 2 existing flag poles, and removal of approximately 5 drainage structures. The work to be done under this contract shall consist of furnishing all labor, material, equipment and incidentals required to make the required modifications to the North Common located in Amherst between Main Street, South Pleasant Street, Spring Street and Boltwood Avenue Security deposits will be required in the form of a Bid Bond, certified check, or cashier's check, from a responsible bank, trust company, or insurance institution, in the amount of five percent (5%) The successful bidder will be required to furnish a payment bond in the amount of fifty percent (50%) Questions shall be emailed to Simone Cristofori at cristoforis@amherstma.gov .
