As of April 9, 2024, an architect has been selected and this project is in the design phase. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined. It is anticipated construction will be completed for Alcott Elementary in 2027 and construction will be completed for Smith Elementary School in 2031. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: LWSD is hiring for architectural and engineering (A/E) services for master planning to inform an upcoming measure for capital construction. The project includes two existing elementary schools to be modernized or enlarged & rebuilt on site. LWSD will also be hiring a GC/CM to assist with cost estimating and preconstruction services. LWSD fully embraces the principles of collaboration and integrated project delivery that emphasize a cooperative approach to problem solving. LWSD expects the A/E and GC/CM team to create a culture of open and honest communication and establish an environment where the team contributes its best efforts for the benefit of the project In consideration of a potential 2018 Bond measure for the Capital Facilities Program, Alcott Elementary School was evaluated to determine whether modernization/addition or building New-in-lieu (i.e. rebuild) of the existing school on site was the better approach to meeting the district's long-range educational and facilities goals. Based on enrollment projections, the 30 classroom (550 students) Educational Specification standard was applied to both modernization and rebuild new approaches; with a building program of 79,000 square feet. The process included on-site visits, physical condition analysis, evaluation of the existing school's program fit with the District's educational delivery standards, review of OSPI guidelines, construction-phase logistics and comparative cost estimates.
