Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
Rhode Island Contract No. 2023-CB-022, STPG-8888(245) is for the Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 067001 and the Replacement of Bridge No. 067101. Rehabilitation work of Bridge 067001 includes deck replacement, approach slab replacement, construction of new safety barrier, steel beam repairs, and repainting of the steel superstructure. The rehabilitation work also includes refacing the existing abutments, wingwall repairs and backwall reconstruction. The existing watermain attached to the bridge will be relocated as part of the rehabilitation work. The Replacement of Bridge No. 067101 will include the full removal and disposal of the existing bridge. Bridge 067101 will be replaced with a steel girder superstructure with a concrete deck supported by a concrete substructure on piles. The majority of work will be performed during a full closure of Route 102 at the bridge sites. Work under this contract will also include, but is not limited to, highway and traffic work incidental to bridge construction. RIDOT- Bridge Group 17D - Burrillville Bridge associated work at Bridge No. 067001 under this contract shall consist of, but not be limited to: deck replacement; approach slab reconstruction; concrete masonry repairs to substructures; abutment refacing; steel plate repairs; repainting of girders; backwall reconstruction; removal of concrete parapet and one bar railing; construction of new TL-5 safety barrier; replacement of existing deck joints with saw and seal joint at fixed end and asphaltic plug joint at the expansion end while utilizing deck over backwall detail; removal and replacement of waterproofing membrane; removal of existing safety walk; watermain relocation. Bridge associated work at Bridge No. 067101 under this contract shall consist of, but not be limited to: full removal and disposal of the existing bridge, including substructure and superstructure, construction of new concrete abutments, steel superstructure, and concrete deck, construction of new TL-5 safety barrier, construction of new waterproofing membrane, HMA wearing surface and joints. Highway associated work throughout the project limits shall consist of, but not be limited to: full depth pavement reconstruction from approximately 175 feet south of the Bridge 067001 southern approach slab to 115 feet north of the Bridge 067101 northern approach slab; removal and replacement of bituminous berm; removal and resetting of granite curb; removal of existing guardrail and installation of new MASH-compliant guardrail; resetting existing catch basins with new frames and grates; cleaning and flushing pipes; selected clearing and grubbing; erosion control measures; new pavement markings; signage; maintenance and protection of traffic. Whipple Avenue / Oakland School Street is proposed to be milled and overlayed for approximately 150 feet below Bridge 067101. Existing bituminous concrete sidewalks and bituminous concrete lip curb next to each abutment will be removed and replaced along with limited full depth pavement reconstruction adjacent to this work. Approximately 90 feet of existing 18" metal pipe will be removed and replaced with new 18" RCP beneath the northern sidewalk as well. RI Route 102 between Clear River Drive and RI Route 107 (East Avenue) will be closed for the bridge construction. Passenger car and truck detours are proposed and shown in the plans. Whipple Avenue will also be closed to aid and expedite the construction of Bridge No. 067101. Signal timing revisions are proposed at two existing signals along the proposed detour routes, at the following intersections: o RI Route 102 (Broncos Highway) ay Central Street o RI Route 102(Broncos Highway) at RI Route 107 (East Avenue) A temporary signal is proposed at an existing stop-controlled intersection at RI Route 107 (East Avenue) at RI Route 107/98 (Harrisville Main Street).
