Blast cleaning shall be done only when the surface temperature of the steel is at least 5 F. above the temperature of the dew point. Blast cleaned surfaces shall be coated before any visible rust forms on the surface. No blastcleaned surface shall be left uncoated for more than 24 hours. The rest of the tower exterior and tank structure shall be power washed at no less than 3000 psi with a trisodium phosphate or approved equal solution to remove all dirt, mildew, etc. Any product selected shall be used according to manufacturer specifications. Alternative product may be considered and accepted upon technical review and determination made by Engineer. Please note two weeks will be required to approve alternative coating systems. Unless surface has failed or is corroded it shall be prepped to SSPC-SP 1 specification. Otherwise, prepare all failed or corroded exterior areas in accordance with SSPC-SP 2 hand Tool Cleaning and/or SSPC-SP 3 Power Tool Cleaning Specifications.
