Remodeling of a fire / police facility in Brigham City, Utah. Conceptual plans call for the remodel of a fire / police facility.

Brigham City Corporation is seeking proposals from qualified architects and architectural firms to design a remodel plan for the existing kitchen, dayroom, and personal protective equipment (PPE) storage area at the Fire Department. The Brigham City Fire Department has a long standing history in our community. The department was first organized in 1892 and has been providing fire suppression and emergency services for 127 years. During 2014 to 2015, Brigham City began the process of switching the department from a volunteer/part-time paid department to a full-time department supplemented with part-time staff. Prior to this the department had a unique history. Today, BCFD functions as a combination department with 18 full-time staff and 20 part-time staff. Daily staffing allows for 5 full-time and 2 part-time employees per day, assigned to three operational shifts. Each shift is 48 hours in duration followed by a 96 hour rest period. As the current facility was never designed to house full-time operations, the building has undergone numerous remodel projects. The most recent project involved the remodel of the 2nd floor to add four additional dorm rooms; lower the ceiling level; enclose the gym/fitness area and improve HVAC systems. The kitchen and dayroom area of the fire station were never designed for the current way the department operates. The kitchen area lacks food storage for individual personnel and cooking facilities are marginal. Refrigerators are mismatched and do not have ice making capabilities. The dayroom (TV room) area was created by firefighters in an area under a mezzanine which was designed and installed by firefighters without permits or engineering. It is the desire of the department to relocate the dayroom to an area near the kitchen and use the existing dayroom space to build an NFPA compliant personal protective equipment (PPE) storage area. The removal of the mezzanine may be required during the project due to its construction and lack of engineering design. It is the desire of the department to comply with the findings of a consulting firm who developed the Fire Department Master Plan. In this document it was noted that changes must be made to our PPE storage as it is not NFPA compliant Services to be provided: 1. Complete architectural design work for the remodel of the existing kitchen area; dayroom area; and the design of a new personal protective equipment (PPE) storage area for firefighter gear. a. Key components: i. Kitchen: Complete remodel of the existing kitchen facility including redesigned space; new cabinetry; refrigerators; cooking equipment etc. ii. Dayroom: Relocation of the dayroom to the existing kitchen area which will require a design of the space. iii. PPE Storage: Design of an NFPA compliant fire turnout gear (PPE) storage area with ventilation system. iv. Mezzanine: As the existing mezzanine creates the current space for the existing dayroom, and the mezzanine was never engineered or installed with permits, it may be necessary for the complete removal and redesign of the mezzanine space. 2. Specific topics to be addressed: i. Architectural and engineered drawings. ii. Construction cost estimates. 3. Project Summary: Provide a project analysis and summary document along with the design concept and cost estimates. All enquiries related to this RFP are to be directed, in writing, to Brandon Thueson at bthueson@bcutah.org. All inquiries must be received by 5:00 PM MST, July 21st 2023.
