As of February 22, 2024, a design team has been identified. Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) requests Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from consulting engineering firms associated with program management experience and a successful track record with structural rehabilitation programs for water treatment facilities. The Sweeney Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) is in Northern New Hanover County and treats surface water from the Cape Fear River. SWTP treats an average of 16 million gallons per day. Finished water is stored in two clear wells, a 4.0 MG Reservoir, and a 12.0 MGReservoir. The 4.0 MG Reservoir was constructed in 1944 and the 12.0 MG Reservoir was constructed in 1963. Repairs have been made to both Reservoirs throughout their lifespan, most recently in 2014. The purpose of this Request for Qualifications is to obtain submittals from qualified engineering firms to evaluate previous condition assessment report, evaluate and modify (if needed) structural rehabilitation program, develop an engineering design focusing on replacing failed expansion joints in walls and floors of both Reservoirs, permitting, and assistance with obtaining construction bids and awarding a contract to construct the project. Construction phase engineering services may be negotiated at a later date. CFPUA will address questions regarding the RFQ until 2:00 PM on August 22, 2023.
