Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Conceptual plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to replace the US-17 bridge over the Edisto River in Colleton/Charleston County with a new bridge in the same location. The project includes replacing the existing bridge structure and constructing the roadway to meet current design and safety standards. The existing US-17 facility is comprised of four, 11-foot travel lanes, with approximately 2-foot paved shoulders. The proposed new roadway section will provide four, 12-foot travel lanes with 6-foot paved and 4-foot grassed shoulders. Construction of the new bridge will be staged, allowing traffic to continue to use the existing crossing while the new facility is being built. As of September 1, 2023, ROW acquisitions begin Fall 2023, Construction is expected for Summer 2024 and ending in Summer 2026. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
