Reference Number 0000327419 The Town of Amherst is looking for a vendor to supply and plant trees of various kinds for town wide use. All trees are to be handled and transported in a manner conducive to good nursery practices. All plants shall be balled and burlapped as specified and true to name. No substitutions in species/cultivar will be allowed unless specified in writing by the Superintendent of Highways and/or his agent or inspector. Each tree shall be well planted, existing earth removed and refilled with soil acceptable to the Superintendent of Highways and/or his agent or inspector, well tamped and staked. Stakes shall be of hard wood, 6 ft. minimum heights and will be placed at the time of planting. Stakes should permit some movement at the top without allowing movement of roots or rubbing of the trunk. The top 4 to 6 inches of each stake shall be painted a color specified by the Superintendent of Highways. Wide belt-type ties or equal must be used; do not use rope or wire in hose sleeves. Tree wrap may be used to protect trees during transport but shall be removed at time of planting. The fertilizer shall be "time release" only and will be placed in the hole and covered by 4 to 6 inches of soil before the tree is placed in position.
