The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) chief scientific in-house research agency. The primary mission is to find solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans, from field to table. The Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) is a component of ARS and conducts research related to the production and protection of plants and animals, as well as research to protect our natural resources. BARC shall hire a contractor to perform services for the maintenance of grounds of the west side campus. The BARC Westside and associated parking areas and structures, comprise a total of 800 acres (not counting fields and forests). This includes approximately 60 acres of mowing and 45,000 sq. ft. of bedding and 34.5 acres of meadows. The requirement includes: o Mowing occurs as necessary. o Cutting the meadows occurs one a year in March. o Edging occurs three times a year. o Clearing and mulching beds occurs twice a year. o Beds must remain clean and free of debris.
