Reference Number 0000327699 The goals of this project are to re-surface the identified trails with quality asphalt overlay, to do so in an organized and safe manner, and to cause as little disruption to the public as possible. Question Acceptance Deadline 08/28/2023 at 11:59 PM MT Questions are submitted online Yes Contractor shall give at least one week notice before beginning construction. All terms of the trail overlay contract shall be completed by October 31, 2023. Bonding Requirements - Bid Bond 5 % - Performance Bond 100 % - Maintenance Bond 100 % - Payment Bond 100 % *The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids or accept what is, in its judgment, the bid which is in the City's best interest. The City further reserves the right, in the best interests of the City, to accept a late submittal or to waive any technical defects or irregularities in any and all bids submitted. Trails: Chatfield Trail - Approximately 1610 linear feet of trail mill and overlay. Trail is 12' wide. There are seven tree-root caused humps in this area that will be milled, patched and covered with Petromat prior to overlay. There are twenty-six (26) identified cracks greater than 1/2 " in this zone slated for repair prior to overlay. Assume 4 foot wide Petromat to be laid on these for approximately 312 linear feet. Ute Avenue Trail - Approximately 3083 linear feet of trail mill and overlay. Trail is 10' wide. There are seventy-eight (78) cracks greater than 1/2" in this zone slated for repair prior to overlay. Assume 4 foot wide Petromat to be laid on these for approximately 780 linear feet. Construction Standards: o Please refer to City of Aspen Asphalt Trail Standards attached to this of work. o Asphalt Crack Repair is defined as: mill transverse cracks to full asphalt depth, patch and compact with hot mix asphalt per specifications, and cover with full trail width (12') Petromat two feet on either side of crack (4' x 12' Petromat patch per crack). o As noted in the specifications, all new asphalt edges shall be backfilled with top soil to a 2' width from overlay edge. o Trail will be notified and closed by City Staff. o Asphalt compaction testing shall be required every 300 trail feet with reports submitted to the project manager upon completion of the overlay. o Refer to City of Aspen Engineering Design Standards, January 2019 for asphalt requirements. o Contractor to use Grading SX conforming to CDOT specification Table 703-4. o Asphalt Cement: The asphalt cement to be used on this project shall be PG 58- 28 conforming to the requirements of Subsection 702.01 of the CDOT Specifications. Patching A. Hot-Mix Asphalt Pavement: Saw cut perimeter of patch and excavate existing pavement section to sound base. Excavate rectangular or trapezoidal patches, extending 12 inches (300 mm) into adjacent sound pavement, unless otherwise indicated. Cut excavation faces vertically. Remove excavated material. Recompact existing unbound-aggregate base course to form new subgrade. B. Tack Coat: Apply uniformly to vertical surfaces abutting or projecting into new, hot-mix asphalt paving at a rate of 0.05 to 0.2 gal./sq. yd. (0.2 to 0.8 L/sq. m). 1. Allow tack coat to cure undisturbed before applying hot-mix asphalt paving. 2. Avoid smearing or staining adjoining surfaces, appurtenances, and surroundings. Remove spillages and clean affected surfaces. C. Patching: Partially fill excavated pavements with hot-mix asphalt base mix and, while still hot, compact. Cover asphalt base course with compacted, hot-mix surface layer finished flush with adjacent surfaces. Repairs A. Leveling Course: Install and compact leveling course consisting of hot-mix asphalt surface course to level sags and fill depressions deeper than 1 inch (25 mm) in existing pavements. B. Crack and Joint Filling: Remove existing joint filler material from cracks or joints to a depth of 1/4 inch (6 mm). 1. Clean cracks and joints in existing hot-mix asphalt pavement. 2. Use emulsified-asphalt slurry to seal cracks and joints less than 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide. Fill flush with surface of existing pavement and remove excess. 3. Use hot-applied joint sealant to seal cracks and joints more than 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide. Fill flush with surface of existing pavement and remove excess
