Saving Project...

Renovation of a mixed-use development in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Working plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

As of July 30, 2024, this project is expected to go out to bid in late Q3 or early Q4 2024 with construction expected to begin late Q1 or early Q2 2025. UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - WHITEWATER CAMPUS The metals laboratory suite consists of three spaces: 2054 (912 ASF), 2054A (544 ASF), and 2054B (212 ASF). These three spaces will be completely renovated and reconfigured, including potential expansion into the adjacent drawing studio (Room 2057). The renovated suite will provide efficient and safe flow of processes and instruction. The instruction area will be designed to accommodate 18 students plus an instructor and provide instructional technology Level 3. A new instructor station, dedicated computer, projector, projection screen, and audio system will be provided. Suite ventilation, electrical power, and lighting distribution, performance, and controls will be replaced, relocated, and augmented as required to meet current standards and accommodate the new laboratory layout. All spaces should be evaluated, and appropriate provisions made for accessibility. This includes accessible sinks, workstations at each functional area, electrical power and lighting, and storage. The suite HVAC system will be re-balanced, the exhaust snorkels in the center of the room will be replaced, and the vents above the burnout kiln will be lowered and/or replaced. The vent in Room 2054A above the kilns will also be replaced. The exhaust fan on the roof will be replaced or reshelved. Additional exhaust capacity and features will be required to support the addition of 3D modeling, 3D printing, and digital fabrication. New adjustable anvil decks will be provided and the etching area will be converted to a saltwater bath, including a new rectifier and tank. The spray etcher will be removed and properly disposed, and the casting equipment will be updated and replaced. Emergency shower/eyewash station(s) will need to be provided for each separated process area that requires one. General sinks as required for specific processes and general hand washing will also be included. If the metals laboratory is expanded into the drawing studio, incorporation of natural light should be considered as well. Installation of internal windows on the west wall will allow marketing opportunities and visual access to laboratory activities. The drop ceiling in Room 2054A will be removed to allow the creation of additional storage area. A new storage system will be provided, including a dedicated area for digital tools and equipment. Metal and/or chemical resistant shelving will be provided beneath the soldering station along with sound dampening panels.
