Site work for a power facility in Marshall, Michigan. Conceptual plans call for site work for a power facility.
The Power Plant's primary functions include emergency backup power in the event of a transmission system or substation failure, as well as helping meet Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) capacity requirements that are based on the City's peak electric demand. The City's average demand is approximately 20 MW, and 2022 peak demand exceeded 29 MW. CAT Generators are being added in 2024, but the need will continue. Additional generation should be planned for 2027/2028 to continue to help meet the City's MISO capacity obligations while also providing additional emergency backup service. This project is currently in included in the City of Marshall's FY 2025-2031 CIP. As of July 22, 2025, information regarding a design firm and the general contractor selection timeline has not been disclosed. A firm construction timeline has not been released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
