The university of Ottawa downtown campus consists of forty large academic buildings with a combined floor area of 381,000 m² (4.1 million ft2). The buildings are served by a DELTA Controls building automation system with a total point count of approximately 65,000 to 70,000 points, and another 100,000 virtual points. All these points are available as bacnet IP. Thirty of the campus buildings are connected to the central heating plant (CHP). The CHP supplies steam, chilled water and electricity to these buildings. In turn, they are metered through approximately 550 electricity and energy meters. Electricity is tracked using Triacta powerhawk meters. Energy (steam, condensate, HW, CHW) is tracked using a variety of devices including turbine meters (condensate), and Endress & Hauuser utility grade flow and energy meters. TIMELINE: A Request for Expressions of Interest from consultants to gather industry interest and assist in the strategies to enable the University to move towards Intelligent Buildings and big data via integration of the BAS control points and metering systems has been issued by the Owner. An invited RFP is expected fall 2023, based on interest.
