As of November 8, 2023, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for award has not yet been established. Contract term: Up to 10 Years Project Background: The 50+ year-old post-tensioned I girder bridges carrying Lewiston Road and the Robert Moses Parkway northbound and southbound over the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant (RMNPP) are nearing the end of their service lives. This is indicated by the observed deterioration of both the post-tensioning tendons and the girders themselves. Previous girder shoring and expansion joint replacement programs are only temporary solutions to prolonging the life of these structures. Since by their nature, pre-stressed and post-tensioned beams are generally not considered feasible candidates for wholesale rehabilitation, full superstructure replacement is the most beneficial option. NYSDOT replaced similar superstructures at LPGP with construction Completion in 2016. The RMNPP superstructures are more protected than the LPGP superstructures and are in better condition hence the later schedule for replacement. The RMNPP bridges have a combined total of 8 traffic lanes and are approximately 2,000 feet long. Although historically reliable, this NYPA's bridge system is aging and issoon reaching itslife expectancy. There is no pre-determined time that an individual structure element of bridge will fail, but as bridge in service ages, the maintenance costs and downtime for upkeep rise and the probability of failure increases.
