Renovation of a fire / police facility in Newport, Rhode Island. Completed plans call for the renovation of a fire / police facility.

Reference Number 0000337781 Description The City of Newport Fire Station No.5 is located at 119 Touro St. Newport, in Newport Rhode Island. Station No.5 was built in 1895 and is a brick-and-mortar structure with original windows. The tower has been deconstructed over the years and there are 12 remaining wood- framed, wood constructed windows. The window restoration and repair at Fire Station No. 5 shall include full restoration and repair to number 1- 12 numbered sashes identified in the attached elevation drawing, Attachment No. 1. There are a total of 12 windows that are included in this project. Attachment 1 is an elevation drawing of the building. The 12 windows that are a part of this RFP are numbered 1 through 12 on the drawing. Windows No. 1 through 12: Restoration / repair I rebuild 12 windows, exterior trim, frames, seals, and hardware in tower. A. The vendor is responsible for their own lift / tools to complete the job The vendor is responsible for the disposal of all rubbish and unneeded materials associated with the project. B. Removal of all window sash and window hardware. City ofNewport, Rhode Island RFP# 24-064 C. Secure all opening with plywood while sash Is being restored and painted. D. Restoration, repair and repainting of all interior and exterior surfaces of sash. E. Restoration, repair and reinstallation of all accompanying window hardware. F. Restoration, repair and repainting of all interior and exterior surfaces of window frames and sills. G. Replace any broken or missing sash cord, window weights, and hardware. H. Replace any broken or missing glass and parting beads. I. Re-install-all-sash-and-window-hardware-upon-completion-of-restoration-and-repair. J. Restoration of any damage to grounds surrounding Station 5 that was done during completion of this project. K. Vendors are Instructed to treat all existing paint that is included in the scope of this project in accordance with all applicable laws, statutes and regulations related to removal, handling, and disposal of lead paint. All employees engaged in this process must be provided with the necessary personal protective equipment and measures must be put in place to ensure that. L. Fire Station 5 can maintain operations in a safe environment. M. Sash and all associated hardware shall be removed from the window frame for restoration. N. Relocate sash to location selected for completion of restoration/ repair. Mark each piece of glass prior to removal to assure Its correct location and orientation for reinstalment. Remove all existing hardware, bag and label Remove all glass from sash by first removing all glazing material and glazier points If present. Removed glass shall be carefully documented and stored for later cleaning and reinstallation All glazing compound, including bedding, shall be removed in a manner that avoids damaging the sash Remove ALL paint from the interior and exterior of the sash Examine the sash for checks, cracks and any missing pieces or broken pieces of wood Checks and cracks shall be filled with a two-part epoxy such as Abatron. W. Missing and/or broken pieces shall be molded to match the job at hand. The sash shall be primed with a high-quality Alkyd based primer with two coats on the interior and three coats on the exterior. The sides shall not be primed, but rather oiled prior to re-installation. The rabbets of the muntins, styles and rails shall get a layer of Sarco Seal Elastic Glazing Compound, Type M into which the panes will be set. Glazier points shall be installed to keep the glass from falling out. Sarco Seal Elastic Glazing Compound, Type M shall then be installed forming a bond between the glass and the wood to keep the weather out. AA. Any broken or missing glass is to be replaced with modern / period glass
