Site work, renovation and addition to an educational facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Completed plans call for the addition of a 59,325-square-foot educational facility; and for the renovation of a educational facility.
The scope of work for W.C. Stripling Middle School includes a 59,325 square foot new classroom addition, and major renovations to the existing building. The areas of renovation include both academic changes and upgrades to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The new Classroom Building is located south of the existing building and north of the existing track and football/soccer field. The building will be shaped so that the existing mechanical yard can remain in place. The building will be three stories tall with a new secured and accessible main entry to the east on Clover Lane. A narrow glass 'connector' piece will link the two buildings internally at each level, and serve to separate the new structure from the historic existing building visually. With the exception of the counseling suite and some offices for life skills and CTE, all administrative functions will be relocated to the new building. The first floor will include two science labs with prep rooms for the 8th grade and two visual art rooms with large storage areas. A generously wide corridor and collaboration space, weight room, and restrooms complete the first floor and double as a tornado shelter for the entire campus. The second floor will have four science labs, two for 6th grade and two for 7th grade. Five other general classrooms located on this level are to be occupied by the 6th grade in an attempt to keep them close together. The third floor, with a higher ceiling, will house Band, Choir, and Orchestra, and all of the associated storage rooms, and a shared suite of practice rooms. The remaining 6th grade classroom is also located on this level. Restrooms will be located on each floor. The new building will also include an elevator. The building will be masonry and complement the existing historical building in tone and scale, while not attempting to match the original design. The renovated areas in the existing building to accomplish the required updates are numerous. Existing lockers and corridor walls will all be removed in order to allow for clean installation of required electrical and data infrastructure. Many walls will be removed in order to enlarge classroom sizes to more closely meet current standards and meet the District's program. The media center will also be enlarged and include study rooms. The existing visitor seating area for the gym will be redesigned to meet Texas Accessibility and Life Safety standards. New finishes will be installed throughout. At the exterior of the building, all existing windows will be replaced with new insulated windows in a historically appropriate style to mimic the original design. The existing cast stone will be properly cleaned. Sitework will include new parking lots, site lighting, and all necessary infrastructure. Please take note of the phasing plan included in the drawings. The renovations for this project will be phased to minimize the effect to ongoing school operations. Proposals should be submitted accordingly. There are 7 Alternates on the project. Please take note of each as they relate to your trade, and submit proposals to reflect Alternate pricing, if applicable. Addendum #1-#2 has been issued as of 10-4-2023. To all bidders, As it relates to your scope of work, if at all, please separate your proposals between work associated with the new addition (Area C), and work associated with the renovation (Areas A & B).
