Saving Project...

Site work, paving and renovation of a bridge / tunnel in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Design plans call for the renovation of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

Project is included in the Capital Improvement Plan for 2024-2029. As of October 3, 2023, a design team has been selected and identified. Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2027 and to conclude by October 2030. Approximately 1,200 linear feet (LF) of Sandbridge Road will be widened to include a two-lane undivided roadway with four-foot shoulders and a left turn lane along Sandbridge Road westbound. These improvements will also include raising the roadway to account for 1.5 feet of sea level rise. The edge of the travel way to the north side of the roadway will be maintained in its existing location to the greatest extent practicable with an improved 4-foot paved shoulder and a 4-foot graded shoulder. New Bridge Road will need to be raised to tie to the proposed elevation of Sandbridge Road. A new box culvert will be provided underneath New Bridge Road to convey drainage to Ashville Bridge Creek. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
