The City of Brookings is seeking proposals to provide Facility Planning Consulting Services for the Brookings Public Library and the Brookings Activity Center. Questions should be directed to Ashia Gustafson at (605)692-9407. The current library building has been in service at its existing site, 515 Third Street, in 1976. This facility was expanded from 16,000 square feet to 33,000 square feet in 1999. Since then, it has gone through slight modifications, but space limitations and dated amenities are restricting the services the Library currently is able to provide to the community. As of 2022, the Library had 226,155 materials in circulation, 114,958 annual visits to the Library, 11,384 library card holders, and offers approximately 700 programs to 25,709 program attendees each year. The adjacent Brookings Activity Center provides, in a separate building, membership opportunities for anyone 55 years of age and older, and offers exercise classes, cards and games, crafts, dining, and arts and recreation programming. The City wishes to explore and identify opportunities for physical, recreational, and programming connection, collaboration, and synergy between the Brookings Activity Center and the existing Public Library.
