SHRINERS BLVD. WATER EXTENSION PHASE 2 PROJECT 1078 ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT Work on which proposals are invited consists installation of approximately 5,600 linear feet of water main, related appurtenances, custody transfer station and connection to existing watermain as well are bores under Shriners Blvd, in Biloxi, MS. The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.Engineers Estimate: $800,000 - $1,000,000 This work shall consist of all labor, materials, equipment, tools and services required to furnish and install water mains, custody transfer station, fittings, hydrants, valves, meter, thrust blocks and related appurtenances at sites and locations as designated in these specifications and in reasonably close conformity with the lines and grades specified in the Drawings. 1.2 REQUIREMENTS Work in this section shall be in accordance with applicable State Requirements and OSHA Safety and Health Standards for Construction. 1.3 RELATED SPECIFICATIONS Water Mains and Appurtenances Section 907-644-1 (Note - where there is a conflict between Section 907-644-1 and these specifications, Section 907-644-1 shall govern). 2.1.1 The custody transfer station (CTS) piping and fittings shall consist of all flanged ends, unless otherwise approved by the Engineer and Owner. Ductile iron piping and fittings shall comply with other provisions of specification 907-644-1. 2.1.2 The gate valves (i.e., shut-off valves) used in the above-ground piping associated with the CTS shall each be provided with a handwheel for ease of operation and also a test port consisting of a threaded water spigot. Buried gate valves used in the bypass operation shall be provided with a two-inch operating nut inside a manufacturer provided valve box with concrete pad. 2.1.3 The area of the CTS shall be provided with a minimum of a 6-inch base of compacted Size II stabilizer aggregate or compacted #610 limestone over geotextile fabric. The limits of the limestone base shall be a minimum of one foot outside of the perimeter of the piping. 2.1.4 The CTS shall be provided with a Watts pressure reducing valve, or approved equal, and a Mueller HBMag(TM) electromagnetic flowmeter, or approved equal. 2.1.5 The CTS shall be provided with a minimum of two (2), threaded pipe supports made of hot-dipped galvanized steel 2.2.1 With the exception of the custody transfer station, mechanical joint retainer glands shall be used for all connections of pipe to fittings and shall be made with a suitable restrained joint system, meeting any one of the following specifications: 2.2.1.1 For Ductile Iron and PVC Pipe, a suitable ductile iron retainer gland, designed and recommended by the gland manufacturer, for the type of pipe used. Gland shall be manufactured entirely of 60-42-10 ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536- 80. Glands shall attach to the pipe barrel through a plurality of individually activated gripping surfaces (wedges). EBAA Iron "Megalug" series or approved equal for Ductile Iron Pipe. 2.2.1.2 For Ductile Pipe only, a ductile iron mechanical joint retainer gland employing cupped-end threaded set screws which conform with the pipe manufacturer's guidelines as to number of set screws and torque to be applied to properly restrain the joint to a rating of not less than 250 psi. 2.2.1.3 Pipe Joint Restraint (applicable only for pipe joints within specified distances from fittings--see schedule in Drawings): Use two glands similar in design and materials to the joint retainer glands previously specified, one immediately behind the joint bell and one on the pipe spigot, connected by two or more ductile iron rods spanning across the pipe joint. For ductile pipe, it is also permissible to use mechanical joint pipe with restrained retainer gland, or special "lock-ring" pipe joints. 2.2.1.4 Mechanical joints shall be wrapped in a 8-mil polyethylene fabric to prevent contact with native soils. This includes joints with ductile iron fittings and gate valves. 2.3 METALLIC MARKING TAPE Marking tape shall have the following: o 3" minimum width o Have "Caution Waterline Below" printed continuously o 5.0 mil overall thickness o 100% virgin low density polyethylene o Aluminum center core o Triple layer lamination o Density 1.090 gm/cc o Tensile Strength 5,800 psi
