The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the design and construction of roadway and bridges
along Route 27 at its interchange with Route 9 in Natick, Massachusetts. The limits of the Project extend
along Route 9 from approximately the Cochituate Rail Trail Bridge (over Route 9) to Linden Street, and
along Route 27 from Running Brook Circle to Bacon Street.
The Project consists of replacing the Route 27 bridge over Route 9 with three bridges. The three bridges
include a tied-arch structure accommodating a shared use path (SUP), as well as two other adjacent
vehicular bridges. The proposed project will provide bridge and roadway safety improvements via a
modified diverging diamond interchange (DDI) design, increase vertical clearance for Route 9 motorists,
improve safety for all users, and provide a connected multi-modal network of shared use paths and
sidewalks. The project will utilize offline bridge construction. The Project will also include complete removal of the existing bridge structure, roadway reconstruction,
highway drainage/storm water management features, wall construction, installation of underground vaults
and duct banks for utility undergrounding, traffic management, pavement markings and signage, traffic
signals, highway and pedestrian lighting, utility relocation/protection, landscape, public outreach and
coordination, Hazardous Materials Assessment & Remediation, and all other related bridge and highway
work.
