In 2014 the Airport Authority designed and constructed 4,000 feet of 12- inch water main for the purpose of increasing fire protection at airport facilities near Blue Clay Road. Because there was no demand on the main, it was permitted as a private main and separated from the potable distribution system by a backflow preventer. At that time, it was acknowledged that at such time that adequate potable demand could be added to the main, it would be conveyed to CFPUA for ownership and operation as part of the overall distribution system. The Northern Pump Stations and Force Main (Phase B) capital project is constructing a 24-inch sewer force main along the same route that this water main would follow to interconnect at Kerr Avenue. If both the force main and the water main are constructed at the same time, the construction will be more efficient, and the overall cost will be less. This project will significantly increase fire protection throughout ILM and increase water availability and capacity as far north as Holly Shelter Road. The project is include in the city's 2024-2033 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
