New Playground Facilities at Kensington International Elementary School. The Improvements to Frederick Harris Elementary School will include installation of sediment & erosion controls; bituminous concrete pavement; engineered wood fiber safety surfacing; cement concrete pavement; drainage; earthwork; installation of owner-supplied playground equipment, prefabricated pavilion, and furnishings; fencing; coordination with Owner's poured-in-place safety surfacing vendors; site restoration and landscaping Please contact Anja Duffy, GZA, Inc; anjaduffy@gza.com with inquiries concerning the pre-bid site visits. These meetings will provide an opportunity for interested parties to inspect the sites and all particulars and resolve questions regarding the scope of work, existing conditions and the specifications. Questions must be submitted in writing to the City (nwalker@springfieldcityhall.com) by close of business on November 8, 2023 in order to be considered. The general elements of the Work may include, but are not necessarily limited to: - Obtain all necessary permits and comply with all Owner-obtained and existing permits for the Site. - Install, maintain, and replace as necessary sediment and erosion controls. - Provide traffic and access control, including detouring of traffic around the Project Site as necessary. -Site preparation, clearing and grubbing. - Excavation and backfill. - Tree protection, and hazard tree pruning as required. - Demolition, removal, and disposal of select existing playground components, and fencing. - Installation of base material and drainage for playground safety surfacing. - Coordination with Owner's vendor for installation of poured-in-place playground safety surfacing on stone base by Contractor. - Installation of Owner-furnished materials including site furnishings, fencing, and playground equipment - Hot mix asphalt. - Cement concrete pavement. - Installation of electrical conduit and precast lighting footings. - Coordination with Utility Company for Site Lighting relocation. - Landscaping. B. The Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating and scheduling their Work with the City, protecting structures and other property outside the limits of work, and restoring the condition of all land and features disturbed by the Work. C. The Contractor shall at all times employ Best Management Practices to control sediment transport and erosion at the Site and prevent potential contamination of soil or water resources. Sediment and erosion control measures shall be deployed during all phases of construction and both temporary and permanent site stabilization measures shall be used. The sediment and erosion control measures shown on the Drawings and described in the Specifications shall be considered the minimum acceptable and shall be supplemented by the Contractor as necessary to meet the intent of the Specifications and the conditions of project permits. D. The Contract Drawings specifically delineate limits of work for the Contractor, as well as areas not to be disturbed. The Contractor shall be strictly monitored for compliance with these boundaries. Proper environmental and housekeeping procedures by the Contractor are of highest priority. If the Contractor feels additional staging or lay-down areas are required, the Contractor may request an extension of the boundaries to the City in writing, as described in Section 01000. Trees along the limit of work and the possible contractor staging areas as called out on the Contract Drawings and in the specifications are to be protected from harm. E. The Work required by the Contract Drawings and Specifications shall include furnishing all labor, skill, supervision, tools, construction, equipment, and materials, and performing all operations necessary for the proper completion of the contract work as shown on the Drawings and Specifications, and as required by the City. Following the Notice to Proceed, the Contractor shall submit a schedule showing how the various work items are to be accomplished. F. The Contractor shall also provide all materials, fuels, labor, and other items necessary for the protection of the Work from hot or cold weather, precipitation, surface water flow, groundwater, or other potentially adverse conditions which might cause harm to completed Work or Work underway. The Contractor shall, at no additional cost to the City, be prepared to remove personnel, equipment, and materials from areas of potential inundation in the event of excessive flows and be prepared to restore any damage and resume work at the site.
