Recent release within mechanical room of Hangar 55 dumped approximately 500 gallons of concentrated 3% AFFF foam into floor drains ultimately making its way to 96K gallon Deluge tanks (i.e., Tanks 1 & 2). A contract was recently completed to clean both tanks and approx. 350 linear feet of 24" diameter concrete piping between Hangar 55 and Tank 1. The contractor was unable to clean the approx. 650 linear feet of 24" diameter concrete piping between Tanks 1 & 2 due to the amount of groundwater infiltration. Inflatable plugs were placed isolating this approx. 650' section of 24" piping between the two tanks. Approximately 200,000 gallons of wastewater/sludge was removed from the tanks, as a result of the tank cleaning and disposed of as non-hazardous waste. During the cleaning, it was noticed that water is infiltrating the underground 24" piping from Hangar 55 to Tank 1 and the 24" piping between Tanks 1 & 2. Each concrete Partially Underground Storage Tank is constructed the same with 96,000-gallon capacity/ea. and dimensions of 10' deep and 40' diameter. It appears the 24" piping from Hangar 55 to Tank 1 is clear and should not require significant cleaning prior to CCTV. It appears there will be considerable cleaning of sludge buildup in the 650' section of 24" piping between the two tanks prior to CCTV. 1.2.
