Renovation of a clubhouse / community center in Westford, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the renovation of a clubhouse / community center.
The Town of Westford is seeking bids from qualified contractors to provide restoration services to mitigate water infiltration issues and properly restore affected portions of the Roudenbush Community Center located at 65 Main Street. Westford, MA. The Roudenbush Community Center is an iconic building that is an integral part of the Westford Historic Center and town character. The original building was constructed in 1897 as the home of Westford Academy and now serves as a home for the Roudenbush Community Center as well as the Town Recreation Department offices. The building was significantly renovated in 2017 to bring the building into code compliance for accessibility, modernize the HVAC and electrical systems, and addressed the interior and exterior needs of the building including the replacement of the roof. The roof is hipped with large gabled dormers at the front rear, with two smaller hipped dormers on each side elevation. The roof material is slate with copper flashings and features. Evidence suggests that water has been infiltrating the front of the building near the roof line since the building was built resulting in water running down the front exterior walls and causing flooding in the basement. Some of these walls were recently opened up to find the resulting wood rot from the eaves down to the top of the foundation. It has been observed that in heavy rains, water running down the valley at high rate of speed is overwhelming the gutter and down spout, and running directly into the building via a rotted corbel. The deadline for questions and additional information is Friday November 17, 2023 at 1 PM. All questions are to be emailed directed to ATTN: Jeff Goodwin, Director of Facilities at tmaa@westfordma.gov. Bids will be evaluated on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. By Monday, November 27, 2023 the winning bidder proposing the most advantageous pricing will be notified with an intent to award the contract. It is anticipated that on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 the Select Board will approve the contract and authorize the winning vendor to proceed. A payment bond in the amount of 50% will be required for this project. Bidders must determine the quantities of work required and the conditions under which the work will be performed.
