The City of Topeka is seeking bids for the purchase of a glass bead blend for use in drop-on or intermix applications with reflective pavement markings. The glass bead blend must conform to the following specifications. Specifications: 1. Composition: The glass bead blend must consist of 50% Type 1 glass beads and of 50% Type 2 glass beads that conform to AASHTO M 247. 2. Appearance: The glass beads shall be colorless, transparent, spherically shaped, essentially free of air inclusions and carbon residue and conform to the above gradation in accordance with ASTM D1214 and / or AASHTO PP-74. Blend shall contain a minimum of 50% direct melt glass beads. 3. Roundness: +30 mesh beads shall be a minimum 85% true spheres. -30 mesh beads shall be 80% minimum true spheres measured according to ASTM D-1155, FLH T520, or AASHTO PP74. 4. Index of Refraction: 1.50 to 1.55 by oil immersion method. 5. Chemical Resistance: Chemical Resistance to hydrochloric acid, water, calcium chloride, and sodium sulfide as tested per methods outlined in sections 4.3.6 to 4.3.9 of the TT-B Federal Spec. 1325. 6. Coatings: The glass beads shall be coated to provide moisture resistance and proper embedment into water-borne paint. 7. Moisture Resistance and Flow Characteristics: Beads shall not absorb moisture in storage. They shall remain free of clusters and lumps and flow freely from dispensing equipment. 8. Heavy Metals: Glass bead blend meet and or exceed all MAP-21 requirements. 9. Standard Testing Methods: Glass beads must meet or exceed the standards established by the following standard testing methods listed below. Certification test results must be provided upon request. a. ASTM D1214 b. AASHTO PP-74 c. AASHTO M 247 d. ASTM D-1155 e. FLH T520 f. MAP-21 g. TT-B Federal Spec 1325 Shipping 1. Shipment of ordered product must be a total of 22,000 pounds and must be packaged and shipped in 2,000 pound totes, crates, or boxes. Bulk containers shall be leak proof, moisture resistant, and of sufficient strength to insure safe delivery, handling, and storage of the glass beads prior to and during their use. Delivery 1. Ordered product shall be delivered F.O.B. destination, freight prepaid and allowed to the City of Topeka Traffic Operations Section located at 927 NE Harrison St. Topeka KS 66608. Terms 1. The glass bead blend bid shall be new, unused, and free from defects in workmanship from the date of acceptance by the City of Topeka. Award 1.
