The Lorette River, which crisscrosses the territories of the cities of Quebec and L'Ancienne-Lorette, has experienced various episodes of overflowing its bed over the years. Particularly in 2005 and 2013, when heavy rains caused the flooding of residential, industrial and commercial properties. These overflows have led municipalities to carry out various interventions along the route of the river in order to protect citizens and property from flooding. Construction of 3.2 km of anti-flood walls (concrete and sheet piles), varying from 0.3 to 2.8 m in height; -Development of three overflow plains; -Arrangement of two discharge arms; -Local interventions in the river bed and redevelopment of certain meanders; -Stabilization and protection of slopes by vegetated riprap and/or plant engineering; -Specific developments to improve fish habitat such as groynes in two sectors of the river; -Vegetation of banks and municipal lands; -The dismantling of temporary flood protection structures, including related structures (temporary dikes, sandbags, concrete blocks, riprap, floodgates, etc.); -Addition of storm drainage pipes; -One-off interventions on the existing rainwater and sanitary pipe network. In general, construction work consists of 2,200 m of new storm and sewer pipelines and 11 ditches. There will be modification to underground infrastructure on Ronces and Sevigny Streets.
