This contract offer is for the opportunity to coordinate and implement tree planting operations for approximately 690,000 tree seedlings for BC Timber Sales, in the Kootenay Lake Field Unit (KLFU). Planting Units are located within the Kootenay Lake TSA between Yahk in the South and Duncan Lake in the North. Based on historic evidence for a similar program, prospective bidders can expect that the timing of active operations is between approximately late April and mid-June. Site specific weather, elevation and seasonal factors may vary this window. The minimum production rate is 20,000 trees per day starting from May 6, 2024 until project completion. An earlier startup with a small crew may be possible if planting units are accessible and snow free. The successful contractor will be responsible to coordinate the submission of pre-thaw approvals and thaw requests; coordinate seedling transport including any/all intermediate reefer requirements to meet specified stock handling standards. All thawed stock must be planted within 5 days. This Solicitation is using the BCTS Planting Contractor Rating System to evaluate tenders. Be aware that BCTS has made changes to its EMS and SFM programs to meet the updated 2022 Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Forest Management Standard. Changes impacting BCTS clients include new training requirements (Table 008-1, 008-1A, Tailgate Training, SFI Awareness documents, and new Indigenous rights awareness training, as well as changes to training frequency and a new continuing education component). In addition, note changes to EMS/SFM Environmental Field Procedures and Incident Reporting Procedures which occurred June 1, 2022. Supervisors and workers will need to be familiar with these changes prior to commencement of operations.
