Pitkin County Open Space and Trails (OST) is soliciting professional services to develop a plan and designs for interpretive exhibits along the Countys portion of the Rio Grande Trail to inform and educate visitors in memorable and engaging ways. The Rio Grande Trail is a 42-mile, multi-use trail, linking Roaring Fork Valley communities from Glenwood Springs to Aspen along the old railroad right of way. The 2020 Pitkin County Rio Grande Trail Trailhead and Node Plan and Standards (Node Plan) is a comprehensive and coordinated implementation plan for locating amenities at nodes along the trail. The plan identifies enhancements to existing trailheads and nodes along the trail and locations with amenities to serve trail users. The Node Plan encompasses the approximately 20-mile stretch of the Rio Grande Trail governed by Pitkin County, beginning at the county line in Emma and ending at Stein Park, where the trail enters the City of Aspen. This project, the Rio Grande Node Interpretive Design, for which a consultant is being sought, is the second phase of the Node Plan, which established the locations for interpretive experiences.
