Renovation of an educational facility in Toronto, Ontario. Design plans call for the renovation of a 21,000-square-foot, three-story above grade educational facility.

Renovations to the Birge-Carnegie Building at the Victoria University campus located at 75 Queen's Park Crescent East. The goal of the project is to renovate the three-storey Birgie Carnegie Building, a heritage listed building built in 1910. The Birge-Carnegie Building will accommodate Victoria University administrative departments, and student services, and offer social and meeting spaces with the renewal of the heritage Reading Room. The building renewal provides a unique opportunity for contemporary standards related to accessibility and sustainability to be addressed within the context of a heritage structure. The renovation provides a fully accessible entrance, accessible washrooms on all levels and an elevator serving all levels. The thermal performance of the building envelope will be vastly improved through strategic reconstruction of interior walls, new insulation in roof areas and window refurbishments. New mechanical and electrical systems will similarly result in greatly improved energy efficiency and will be designed to permit a potential future transition to geo-thermal energy in coordination with the Victoria campus-wide sustainability initiatives. The schematic space program has a total of 1,926 square meters. The renovation consists of the following approximate areas: Lower Floor - 729 square meters, Main Floor - 724 sq. m, and Upper Floor - 473 sq. m. TIMELINE: As of early February 2024, the Request For Proposals from Architectural Services has been awarded by the owner. The architect will complete the design and construction administration of Birge-Carnegie Building Renovation at the Victoria University campus. Preliminary plans are underway. A complete scope of work is not released. Working drawings schedules are anticipated winter 2024.
