The City of Nanaimo Roads and Traffic Section is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all City assets located within the road right-of-way. Assets may include: asphalt roadways, sidewalks, road signs, road markings, etc. Each of these asset classes is inspected on a regular basis to determine its' condition and to identify any remedial action required. These remedial actions form the basis of the annual operating plan for the relevant work units within the section. Currently, these inspections are conducted by staff as part of a regular program. The quantity of assets exceeds the ability of City staff to adequately carry out these inspections. With the recent advancements in artificial intelligence/machine learning to identify assets and condition within a video frame, the City is seeking a new visual computing platform to collect, identify, report and visually represent asset inspection activities. The City is seeking Proposals from vendors to supply, update and maintain a video collection, analysis and reporting platform for publicly owned assets within the road right-of-way.
