Saving Project...

Site work for a transportation facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Working plans call for site work for a transportation facility.

The existing Grand Canopy was designed and constructed concurrently with the Airport parking garage to not only provide cover to guests utilizing the pick-up and drop-off terminal curb front lanes, but to architecturally tie the parking garage to the airport terminal. In spring 2023 the terminal building will be expanded westward to support increasing ticketing and baggage demands; this allows for the westward expansion of the terminal curb front to additionally support increasing curb operations. Generally, the Grand Canopy will be extended 200 feet to the west toward the corner of the parking garage (Stair 1) and the new end of the terminal curb. A design-build partner is being solicited to accomplish this in a safe, timely manner. The design-build approach was selected due to the complexity of the project, particularly during the construction phase, with a primary goal of maintaining airport operations through the construction phase of the project. It is understood that the design approach and design details will have a significant impact on the constructability and construction phasing, hence a design-build solution. Design for the adjacent Terminal Enhancement Project - Phase 1 is underway with construction slated to begin spring 2024. The lead designer for the project is VTC with architectural lead Corgan and engineering partner Fishbeck. The Christman Company is the Construction Manager of TEP. A primary goal of the airport with this solicitation is a timely selection of the Grand Canopy design-build team to provide initial foundation and footing design so that impacted areas can be protected (i.e. free of utilities and building structure) during TEP design and construction. Further, initial Grand Canopy Extension design efforts will need to be coordinated with the TEP design team so that the future terminal and canopy structures are complimentary. Questions regarding this solicitation are to be submitted in writing to purchasing@grr.org prior to 2 p.m. on December 14, 2023. Confirmed shortlist.
