This job description is based on past experience. If geologic conditions or drilling costs are significantly different than anticipated the depth of the hole will be adjusted. MGS plans to drill one (1) hole to a total depth of one thousand (1,000) feet. Drift sediments in this area will mostly be sand and gravel with some loam to clay loam textured intervals. Paleozoic bedrock will be encountered around a depth of four hundred (400) feet. Paleozoic bedrock is expected to be a mix of sandstone, siltstone and shale based on analysis of nearby drill cuttings. This area is within a newly identified area of Dakota County that contains evidence of a meteorite impact event that happened while these rocks were being deposited. Because of this, it is unknown how consolidated this bedrock will be. Since drift sediments are not needed in the analysis, the goal will be to drill through the glacial drift (mud rotary) and to begin HQ core drilling at the start of bedrock. The on-site geologist will determine, in consultation with the driller, when bedrock begins. If problems with borehole stability arise, the geologist may decide to complete the borehole at a shallower depth than anticipated, and the driller will be paid on basis of unit cost (per foot) of drilling. The drill hole in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, as described below, may begin as early as February 2024, and is projected to take one week.
