This is the last in a series of flood risk mitigation projects planned for the Blue Plains AWTP. Other recent projects included the construction of floodwall segments. The completed floodwall system will provide the Blue Plains AWTP with flood risk mitigation against the 500-year flood event, plus freeboard to account for wave action. Two of the segments run parallel with the Potomac River shoreline and the other segment runs parallel with the northern boundary line of the Plant. The floodwall segments cross over several underground utilities including the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) high-voltage feeders and one of the Plant's discharge outfalls. The design includes environmental, civil/site, geotechnical and structural disciplines. DC Water Project Objectives o Successfully partnered with a Design-Builder in a collaborative relationship to design and construct approximately 3,350 linear feet of floodwall for the protection of the Blue Plains AWTP. o Protection of the Blue Plains AWTP Outfall 001, Gravity Thickener Facility, Final Dewatering Facility, and all underground utilities from damage during construction and the useful life of the floodwall. o Obtain a cost-effective price for the Work that meets Project Technical Requirements to provide a safe, secure, sustainable floodwall to protect the Blue Plains AWTP. o Provide a low-maintenance floodwall alternative for the design life proposed. o Complete all Work to achieve Final Completion within 1,060 calendar days (approximately 35 months) from the Notice to Proceed (NTP). o Minimize disturbance to existing Blue Plains plant operations and maintenance activities.
