The City of Norfolk is seeking an experienced vendor to provide field renovation services at Harbor Park. Contractor must have previous experience in renovating either a AAA or major league baseball field. a. Remove the current sod and the 4" - 8" organic layer beneath the sod on the stadium surface. Contractorshall install United States Golf Association ("USGA") topdressing sand to bring the field to proper levels and shall laser grade it to ensure proper drainage after the new sod is installed. The staring point is based on corner of third base dugout closest to the outfield. The field shall meet all Major League Baseball standards that require water to drain to drain lines and off the playing surface. Contractor shall remove the drain line extension to return drainage to its original location. b. Inspect the drainage system and move or replace parts to ensure draining on the correct side of the grade break. c. Replace the irrigation system. Contractor shall install new Hunter I-20 and I-25 or equivalent (56 total) sprinkler heads throughout the whole field and install 10 new valves along the wall behind home plate and along the wall on the third base side behind the tarp and down by the gate in left field. d. Install a new irrigation control box/system in the grounds crew shop that shall schedule and turn on the sprinkler. New valves must be compatible with new sprinkler control unit. e. The current field design calls for two (2) acres of thick cut, sand-based Tahoma 31 sod to be installed. Tahoma 31 is appropriate in this transition zone for its cold hardiness, drought resistance, and early green-up. 6" of space between foul line and where the sod starts and 5'6" to the outside of the foul line is required to allow more space for runners to run in dirt and not on the sod. Home plate circle shall be 30' diameter to reduce the amount of dirt that is exposed when the tarp is laid down. f. After the sod has been installed, the infield and baselines need to be tilled up and around 50 tons of Duraedge Professional or equivalent infield mix need to be added and subsequently laser graded to ensure there is proper run off and that there will not be low spots on the playing surface where water will puddle and cause issues. In addition to the infield needing to be re graded, the home bullpen in right field needs to be raised to grade with a small wall installed to prevent washouts in the right field corner.
