Renovation of a fitness / recreation center in Asheville, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a fitness / recreation center.
The historic Stephens-Lee Recreation Center located at 30 George Washington Carver Avenue in Asheville, NC is the recipient of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for facility improvements that will benefit the local community. The Stephens-Lee Phase 2 Restroom Renovations project will complete the improvements to the second floor locker rooms. The scope, in the restroom portion of the locker rooms, includes resizing the toilet stalls to meet current accessibility standards; new toilet partitions, new toilet fixtures and accessories, new floor and wall tile. Deadline to Submit Questions : Monday, December 18, 2023 by 3:00 pm All questions concerning this Advertisement for Bids should be submitted via email to: Nicole George, Project Manager ngeorge@ashevillenc.gov The award of the Contract will be made to the lowest responsible, responsive bidder, who, in the opinion of the City, is qualified to perform the work required and is responsible and reliable. When Alternate Bid items are required in the Bid, the Contract will be awarded to that responsible Bidder whose Bid for the Alternate or combination of Alternates, selected by the City, is the lowest. This project, including the contract resulting from this solicitation, is funded with federal grant money from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). All prospective bidders are hereby informed that they will be required to comply with all applicable federal laws, regulations, executive orders and all terms and conditions of the funding award. B. The Stephens-Lee Recreation Center Capital Improvement project will provide: select interior renovations to the mens' and womens' toilet rooms to bring them back into useful operation; accessibility improvements to the restroom partitions and additional lighting in the multipurpose room. The description of work below is intended to help clarify the scope of work, but in no way limits the extent of work described in the drawings and specifications. C. The Work of Project is defined by the Contract Documents and consists of the following: 1. Locker Room Renovations: Complete the renovation of the existing locker rooms on the second floor. Demolition will be limited to the toilet room side of the locker room and include removing all ceramic wall and floor tile; mortar beds down to substrate; plumbing fixtures; bathroom accessories; plumbing drains and toilet partitions. Electrical fixtures and Vanity will remain but may need to be removed and replaced to facilitate work. At the transition from shower area to toilet area, the General Contractor is required to demolish tile as needed to create a seamless transition between rooms. New work will include new porcelain floor and wall tile systems; new mortar beds sloping to drains with waterproofing system; new plumbing fixtures in existing locations or as indicated in drawings; new electrical devices as indicated in drawings; new bathroom accessories; new floor drains; and new toilet partitions. Work will also include repainting all paintable surfaces and repairs to the existing exhaust fan and ventilation system. Refer to drawings and specifications for additional information. 2. Multi-Purpose Room School House Lighting: Interior renovations of this room will be limited to installing new schoolhouse light fixtures at locations roughed in during first phase of renovations. Wiring and switching to these locations are already in place. 3. Final Cleaning: Following completion of the work, the General Contractor shall clean all spaces affected by construction activities to their pre-construction condition and remove all construction debris.
