Saving Project...

Site work and new construction of a recreation facility in San Antonio, Texas. Completed plans call civil work for an amusement/recreational facility.

Event and Staff Support The purpose of the Project is to create a new, grand event space that will overlook the new gorilla exhibit and the existing lion exhibit. To the west of the event space will be a two-story staff support office space. On the lower level, below the event space, is a central kitchen that will serve events in the building as well as events and food & beverage locations across the zoo. Sitework includes grading and construction of a drop-off area that will be provided in front of the building. The adjacent Gorilla Tower will connect the Event & Staff Support Building to the Gorilla Exhibit at the bottom of the cliff. This tower will provide event guests a chance to see gorillas up close. This tower is a part of the simultaneous Gorilla project. The project consists of, but not limited to, demolition, excavation, grading, concrete, structural steel, metal stairs and railings, stone masonry veneer, rough carpentry, architectural woodwork, waterproofing, insulation, membrane roofing, sheet metal roofing and flashings, doors, windows, gypsum board, tiling, resilient flooring, carpet, wall coverings, painting, toilet compartments and accessories, paving, fences, and landscaping. This project is applying for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and is seeking a LEED Certified rating. Refer to Section 018113 - Sustainable Design Requirements. Gorilla The purpose of the Project is to transform existing underutilized hoof stock exhibits into a state-of-the-art gorilla exhibit and care center. The goal is to create an immersive and complex space where gorillas and people can come together. Guests will have unique viewing opportunities into two lush, exhibit yards which take advantage of natural features in the site, such as the existing limestone quarry wall and a densely vegetated hillside. Nestled into the environment is a viewing pavilion that intersects with a gorilla treetop trail. Gorillas may choose to pass through this space, right over guests' heads. Visitors may travel along their own treetop trail, which parallels that of the gorillas. The gorilla's treetop trail extends out over the basin towards a unique tower where gorillas can climb within. The peak of the tower connects to the new Event & Staff Support Building creating a stunning outdoor space for Keeper Talks. (Event Building is not in the scope of this project). Between the two yards is a holding building which provides a comfortable, indoor dayroom where guests may linger and view the animals. There are also back of house spaces for gorilla holding and keeper spaces to support their care of the animals. The project consists of, but not limited to, demolition, excavation, grading, concrete, structural steel, metal stairs and railings, stone masonry veneer, rough carpentry, architectural woodwork, waterproofing, insulation, membrane roofing, sheet metal roofing and flashings, doors, windows, gypsum board, EIFS, tiling, resilient flooring, carpet, wall coverings, painting, exhibits and graphics, toilet compartments and accessories, mercantile equipment, paving, fences, and landscaping. This project is applying for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and is seeking a LEED Certified rating. Refer to Section 018113 - Sustainable Design Requirements.
