Pender County is seeking Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from NC licensed Architectural/Engineering firms to design a new Library that will meet the needs of Pender County and its residents for the future. The Library is estimated to be approx. 20,000 square feet and located on Hwy 17 in Hampstead Pender County Library services are currently provided through three facilities: the Main Library in Burgaw, the Carolina Heritage Collection Library Annex also in Burgaw, and the Hampstead Branch Library, as well as online services. The upcoming project involves designing and constructing a new Hampstead Branch Library. The current Hampstead Branch Library first opened with 3,400 square feet (SF) in 1983, when the most recent census reported the population of Topsail Township was only 4,600. In 1998, the library was expanded to 7,800 SF, when the township population was around 14,000. By 2020, the township had grown to 30,000 residents and the constraints of an inadequately sized library had become clear. The total population of Pender County is projected to reach 95,000 by 2050--a 58% increase over the 60,000 population reported by the 2020 census. To meet the needs of the most rapidly growing section of a rapidly growing county over the next two and a half decades, a new 20,000 square foot library facility is recommended. The new 20,000 square foot Hampstead Branch Library should include the following: o Single story floor plan o A large community meeting room o A room dedicated to children's programming o Multiple small study rooms o Flexible collection space o Expanded children's area to accommodate growing needs for families Only written questions will be considered and should be submitted via email to purchasing@pendercountync.gov.
