Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Suffolk, Virginia. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

As of March 12, 2024, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for the award has not yet been established. The City is seeking a qualified firm to provide all plant, labor, superintendence, materials, tools, equipment, supplies, incidentals, including but not limited to, detour of traffic, dismantle and remove existing structure, guardrail within the 500ft project limits, and other ancillary items necessary, as identified in these Contract Documents, in order to complete the Freeman Mill Road Bridge Replacement project, to the limits shown on the drawings and in accordance with all specification, terms, conditions, and drawings herein. The project alignment is located on Freeman Mill Road in Suffolk, Virginia. The alignment currently consists of a single span bridge approximately 31 feet long and 22 feet wide. The bridge carries two lanes of traffic (one lane in each direction) over Spivey Swamp The proposed construction will consist of building a new one-span bridge to replace the current one-span bridge. Plans for the new bridge were not available at the time of this reporting; however, the client has provided plans for the Badger Road Bridge Replacement project which is similar to the construction of the new bridge. The bridge length is expected to be modified to allow for new abutments to be placed behind the existing abutments. Sheet piles are planned to be installed at the bridge approaches. The width of the bridge is expected to be increased.
