Site work and new construction of a transportation facility in Dallas, Texas. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a 975,000-square-foot transportation facility; and for site work for a transportation facility.
https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/dfw-airport-makes-progress-on-12b-expansion-what-travelers-need-to-know/3892025/ DFW International Airport is in the middle of one of the most ambitious transformations in its history. If you’re flying in or out of North Texas soon, expect to see plenty of construction and detours. NBC 5 got a first look behind the scenes on Wednesday at the progress underway on the airport’s $12 billion capital improvement program. The current work that’s in progress includes a complete overhaul of Terminal C and the construction of the brand-new Terminal F, which will bring dozens of new gates to support the region’s rapid growth. The next phase that’s about to kick off will impact those driving through the airport and to the terminals. travel 17 hours ago Inside DFW Airport's $12 billion expansion project news Jul 8 Here are the 15 busiest airports in the world With historic construction activity taking place across the airport’s roads and terminals, the airport is telling passengers to arrive early for their flights and travel more prepared than ever before. Here’s an update on the three components that are being worked on simultaneously at DFW Airport: MAJOR TRAFFIC CHANGES Travelers heading to DFW Airport this summer should brace for a new phase of construction along International Parkway — and prepare for changing traffic patterns and detours. Starting the first week of August, the airport will begin demolishing the existing flyover bridge into Terminal B and connecting a newly constructed bridge into that terminal’s roadways. This work marks the next phase of DFW’s effort to transition all access into Terminals A, B, and C from left-hand exits to right-hand exits. During this phase — which is expected to last approximately 90 days — travelers will see detours both when entering Terminal B and when exiting Terminal A. A comprehensive detour signage plan will be in place throughout the airport to help guide drivers. Once complete, Terminal B will be accessible via a new right-hand exit from International Parkway. This is the first of three construction phases, each lasting about three months and involving similar bridge demolitions and roadway reconnections at Terminal A, then Terminal C. DFW Airport offers construction advisories where you can read detailed instructions on the detours that will take place with each phase. Officials say these changes will ultimately improve terminal access and traffic flow as DFW Airport expands to meet growing passenger demand. TERMINAL C UPGRADE Terminal C was operating in the oldest section of the airport that was built when it opened in 1974. After more than 50 years, it is finally getting a much-needed facelift. A section of the terminal has been completed and is in operation but the rest is still being renovated. The work includes adding more gate capacity and features like brand-new concessions, restrooms and seating. Once complete, the expansion will add 115,000 square feet of facilities and be home to nine gates, rebuilding five gates and adding four net new gates to Terminal C. Instead of renovating the terminal in place and potentially impacting daily operations, crews are constructing modular sections in another area of the airport property. Once completed, those large sections of finished terminal are being moved into place one at a time using state-of-the-art industrial caterpillar-like robots, which transport the modules across long distances on the property. Officials say this is the furthest distance in the world that such technology is transporting massive constructed modules. Alanna Quillen NBC 5 Alanna Quillen NBC 5 The red trailers with wheels are the robots that airport officials say are moving the large sections of completed terminals into place Officials say moving the sections in piece-by-piece helps to minimize disruptions to passenger flights in the other functioning parts of the terminal. Terminal C’s parking garages are also getting major upgrades, including the complete reconstruction of the adjacent south parking garage. The new garage will be rebuilt with modern parking management technologies and more parking to accommodate growth from the terminal’s expansion. Renovations of the remaining two garages will follow alongside other phases of the terminal work. TERMINAL F TAKING SHAPE The media tour also included a preview of Terminal F, the first new terminal to be built at DFW in nearly two decades. Once complete, Terminal F will add 31 new gates, bringing the total number of new or reconstructed gates across the airport to 68. Fort Worth-based American Airlines is investing $4 billion into Terminal F and will have exclusive access to its gates once it opens. The first phase of the new terminal is expected to open in 2027. Terminal F is also being constructed in a similar module format in another section of the airport property and being moved in as each piece is completed. Alanna Quillen NBC 5 Alanna Quillen NBC 5 Terminal F construction The Terminal F project will also create a new centralized Skylink Station, as well as a walking connection with Terminal D. The new parking garage for F is also set to be one of the airport’s largest, with a different design that includes built-in curbside circulation for quicker access to check-in and security. Airport officials say all of this expansion is necessary to keep up with the region’s booming growth. “We are the economic engine of North Texas,” said Mohamed Charkas, DFW Airport’s Executive Vice President of Infrastructure and Development. “The North Texas region is growing. We need to make sure that we can be their true gateway to the world. Our airline partners, American Airlines, are growing. They have confidence in DFW. We are their mega hub." By 2030, DFW Airport expects to serve more than 100 million passengers annually. "And for our local domestic guests, they need an airport that is worthy of them. All that derives us and give us the motivation to do all the stuff that we're doing," Charkas said. "We want to phase it but we want do it at the fastest time possible. We know we cannot skip a minute and we have to modernize this airport and that's the undertaking that this airport has done and committed to." ------------------------------- Minority/Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) GOAL is 18% for Pre-Construction services and 30% for Construction services; Contract Term: 974 consecutive calendar days.
