Saving Project...

Site work and new construction of a transportation facility in Tallahassee, Florida. Completed plans call for the construction of a 51,908-square-foot transportation facility; and for site work for a transportation facility.

Sustainable Southside Transit Center Set Aside(s) DBE (15%) Florida Statutes construction projects valued at more than $200,000 will continue to be advertised in the newspaper. All questions must be submitted to Keith.Milton@talgov.com via email. This is a project by the City of Tallahassee (COT) Bus Transit Department (COT-StarMetro) for the procurement of a comprehensive turnkey construction solution for building a new bus transit facility. The facility, referred to as the Sustainable Southside Transit Center (SSTC), is to be constructed on three contiguous parcels (#411230 D0080, #411230 D0091, and #411230 D0090) located at the northwest corner of Orange Avenue and South Meridian Street. The SSTC project is the cumulation of a decade-plus effort to bring a much-needed resource to a historically underserved area of the community. It is designed to meet the community's existing and future public transit needs of area residents for the next several decades. The facility will consist of an eight-bay (8) terminal, each bay equipped with electric charging stations. The project will include 29,373 square feet (SF) of vehicular use area for the bus bays, drive aisles, and employee and visitor parking, 12,746 SF of concrete sidewalks, a 625 SF maintenance building, and a 9,164 SF two-story main building. There will be a continuous shelter spanning from the main building over all bus bays protecting passengers from inclement weather as they purchase their tickets and walk to buses. The main building will house a ticketing center, restrooms, office space, employee break room, and meeting space. The employee parking lot will have one ADA stall and seven regular stalls as required for five employees, one security worker, and one stall reserved for law enforcement. Additionally, the parking area will include 58 bicycle parking spaces. To accommodate paratransit vehicles and vehicles dropping off passengers, a 2,100 SF "flex lane" is proposed along Polk Drive, the street bordering the back side of the transit center. This configuration will allow vehicles to drop off passengers without entering the facility and interacting with bus traffic. In addition to the physical building structure, electrical charging will be provided at all bus bays in the facility. A charging station will also be provided along the flex lane for paratransit vehicles. AutoTurn analysis was performed on the entirety of facility to ensure the site is maneuverable by buses. This analysis dictated the site layout, including turning radii and drive isle widths.
