**As of March 13, 2024, the project was awarded to Waco, Inc. , with an awarded amount of $2,765,000.00.** The purpose of this study was to provide geotechnical information for the design foundations for the proposed well houses at the City of Salem Water Treatment Plant property. The project will include the construction of two approximately 150 square foot, 20-foot-tall, elevated well houses, one on the north side of the Roanoke River and the other on the south. The recommendations developed for this report are based on project information supplied by Arcadis and the City of Salem. PROJECT LOCATION/CURRENT SITE USE/PAST SITE USE The sites are located near the current Salem Water Treatment Facility at 1300 Tidewater Street in the City of Salem, Virginia. The location of Well House 5 is approximately three-tenths of a mile east of the existing facility on the north side of the Roanoke River. The location of Well House 4 is approximately two-tenths of a mile east of the intersection of Mill Lane and West Riverside Drive on the south side of the Roanoke River. At the time of our visit, the ground surface over both sites was grass covered. The ground surface at the location of Well House 5 was noticeably covered by trash, construction materials, metal, and other rubble. The Well House 5 site is overall bounded to the north by Tidewater Street; to the south by the Roanoke River; to the east by a wooded area/vacant lot; and to the west by the existing Water Treatment Plant. The Well House 4 site is overall bounded to the north by West Riverside Drive; to the south by the existing SERVPRO warehouse; to the east by a wooded area/vacant lot; and to the west by a gravel drive leading to 1351 West Riverside Drive The Project includes the following Work: Constructing wellhouses at existing previously-drilled/cased/capped wells and installing a 100 hp 900 gpm well pump and a 100 hp 1,200 gpm well pump each with variable frequency drives, associated piping, valves, meters and appurtenances, 8- inch and 16-inch transmission mains, and various site improvements for each pumping station. The City of Salem reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any irregularities or informalities in the bidding. No bid may be withdrawn after opening except for clerical errors, as set forth in Section 2.2-4330 of the Virginia Code. Bidder must give the City a notice in writing of the request to withdraw a bid within two (2) business days after conclusion of opening.
