Site work and new construction of a recreation facility in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Conceptual plans call civil work for an amusement/recreational facility.
Redevelopment of the former 13.6-acre site of the Penetanguishene Secondary School, now demolished, for construction of a multi-use recreational facility. The scope of work may include a 1,000-seat arena, five curling sheets, a gymnasium and walking track. TIMELINE: This project is on hold. The consultant completed a feasibility study and costing report in 2021. As of March 2022, council unanimously approved a motion to designate the appropriate amount of land at the site for a new multi-use recreational centre. The owner is working on terms of reference for a committee to discuss a potential partnership between the county, the school and the town. As of June 2024, Council members have opted to not enter into discussions with the school board to acquire land at 51 Dunlop Street. Future site selections will proceed in 2024/2025. Further design, tender and construction schedules are undetermined pending funding and council decision to proceed. *The construction method is unknown.
