(WLUC) - This year, a new addition to Marquette’s Presque Isle Park will be built. The design process for the new bandshell is underway. Groups like The Marquette City Band offered suggestions on what could be added. Early design plans could include ADA compliance, new lighting and sound equipment. The Ray and Peg Hirvonen Foundation donated $100,000 toward the design and a tentative $900,000 toward construction for the project. Designing will continue through the summer. Marquette Community Services Director Jon Swenson said construction would start in the fall. “Everybody in the community really loves it,” Swenson said. “But it was built in the 1930s, so it has lived an extraordinary life and served the community very well.” Swenson said Presque Isle will also be part of a five-year parks and recreation master plan. During the summer, the public can suggest project ideas at its board and committee meetings. Swenson hoped the master plan would begin in October. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The intent of this request is to select a firm to provide design and construction oversight services for replacement of the City bandshell located at Presque Isle Park in Marquette Michigan. The City is seeking a firm to work with City Staff, City boards, committees, and commissions, and community stake holders to develop an architecturally stamped design that satisfies the unique requirements of users, visitors and the Marquette community. Construction oversight will consist of demolition of existing bandshell, site work, and construction of a new bandshell. The firm will work directly with the City of Marquette Staff and stakeholders.
