Renovation of a mixed-use development in Kingston, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
The scope of this project includes removal of approximately 30 original geothermal heat pumps, two large central ventilation units, all associated interior pipe distribution and ancillary systems. The geothermal wells will be abandoned in place. There is no central boiler plant in this building. The replacement HVAC system will be all-electric, utilizing air source heat pumps located in generally the same locations as the previous geothermal heat pumps. The system is sized and selected to operate during ultra-low ambient conditions in order to provide year-round heating and cooling through the new heat pumps. New central ventilators will replace the former units. The majority of the existing duct work will be utilized with modifications required at connection points to new equipment. New air conditioning will also be provided in the main foyer of the school. New structural steel framework is required for HVAC equipment located on the roof. Structural framing will be located above the roof and some roof system repairs will be required at connection points to the existing structure Finally, a new building automation system will be provided connecting all new equipment. Some existing exhaust fans and supplemental heaters will be added to the new BAS as well. Construction will be provided in two phases as part of this contract. Phase 1 will be carried out during the summer of 2024. All construction work in 2024 must be complete, functional and ready for occupancy by the end of August 2024. All remaining work will be completed during the summer of 2025.
