As of August 28, 2024, this project has been awarded to developer, Crosland Southeast. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is in exclusive negotiations with Crosland Southeast on a deal to develop the city-owned Destination District Central property. A proposal will be presented to Charlotte City Council for final approval Winter 2024, tentatively. Site plan not yet finalized. Multiple phases focused on retail and hospitality development. If approved by the City Council, construction could begin early 2026. The City of Charlotte (“City”) Aviation Department (“CLT” or “Airport”) seeks the development of +/-90 acres of City-owned land along Wilkinson Boulevard in the Destination District. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to define the front door of the world’s 7th busiest airport with a combination of mixed-use and industrial assets. The Airport is requesting proposals from developers or development teams (“Development Teams”) for development on approximately 39 acres of “Regional Activity Center”-zoned land at the intersection of North Josh Birmingham Parkway and Wilkinson Boulevard and/ or 51 acres of “Manufacturing and Logistics”-zoned land at the intersection of Stafford Drive and Wilkinson Boulevard.
