Description

Site work and renovation of a transportation facility in North Springfield, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a transportation facility; and for the renovation of a transportation facility.

The existing platform at the VRE Backlick Road Station on the Manassas Line only accommodates five-car train sets for boarding and detraining, forcing some passengers to move to different cars for alighting from longer trains. The platform extension project will construct an approximately a 300-foot platform extension to accommodate eight-car trains. This project is currently supported with Federal CMAQ/RSTP funds. Additional CMAQ funds are being sought for the unfunded portion of the project. Project is included in the FY2025 budget. As of January 30, 2024, final design June 3, 2024-June 2, 2025, construction expected June 9, 2025-May 26, 2027. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
