Site work and renovation of a transportation facility in Springfield, Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a transportation facility; and for site work for a transportation facility.
This project supports the design and construction of an extension to the existing west platform (adjacent to WMATA) and a widening/extension of the existing east platform at the VRE Franconia-Springfield Station. These capacity expansions will improve operational efficiency and accommodate eight-car trains. The project is within the limits of the broader VPRA Franconia to Lorton Third Track project, which will block existing access to the east platform. A pedestrian ramp and tunnel entrance will be constructed to maintain that access. As of Janaury 28, 2026, this project is under construction.
